Description
AMM International is delighted to present this iconic 1998 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution V, a true rally-bred performance saloon and one of the most significant models in Mitsubishi’s motorsport history. Celebrated for its role in securing Mitsubishi’s first World Rally Championship Manufacturers’ title with Richard Burns at the wheel, the Evo V remains a benchmark for raw, engaging driving performance and unmistakable 1990s Japanese design.
This example is finished in classic white with period-correct ‘Evolution’ side decals, sitting on white 17-inch seven-spoke alloy wheels that perfectly complement the car’s aggressive stance. Behind the wheels sit yellow Brembo brake callipers, while Falken tyres complete a setup that looks purposeful and performs as intended. The exterior presents well overall, with only light, age-related stone chipping to the front end and some minor scuffing to the front splitter, consistent with careful use rather than abuse.
Power comes from the legendary turbocharged 2.0-litre inline-four engine, lightly enhanced with a professional engine tune, producing approximately 370hp and delivering it to all four wheels through a five-speed manual gearbox. Importantly, this Evo V has avoided the heavy modifications that so often define these cars. The upgrades are limited to what many enthusiasts would consider “just right,” including a new clutch kit and quality coilover suspension, all completed professionally in 2013 at a cost of £6,210. The result is a car that remains true to its original character while offering sharper performance and improved road manners.
Initially registered overseas, the car was imported to the UK and correctly registered with the DVLA in May 2007. It has been maintained with care, with the most recent service carried out in March 2022 by Brodie Engineering, including replacement of belts, pulleys, tensioners, fuel hose, and clamps. Notably, the cambelt was also replaced at this time.
Inside, the cabin remains in good, honest condition, featuring cloth-trimmed seats with patterned inserts, Recaro front seats, a MOMO steering wheel, air conditioning, and a Kenwood stereo with DAB and Bluetooth connectivity. Wear is minimal and age-appropriate, limited to light wear on the steering wheel and seats, minor scuffing on the centre armrest, and some scratches to the passenger seat shell. All mechanical and electrical systems are reported to be functioning correctly.
The most recent MOT, carried out on 30 June 2021 at 131,306 kilometres, resulted in a clean, first-time pass. A comprehensive file of paperwork accompanies the car, supporting its history and careful ownership.
With many Evo V examples heavily modified, poorly maintained, or driven hard, this car represents a rare opportunity to acquire a lightly fettled, well-sorted example that remains faithful to the original spirit of the model. Offering thrilling performance, a raw and engaging driving experience, and undeniable motorsport pedigree, this Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution V would make a standout addition to any serious Japanese performance collection or an exceptional driver-focused classic to be enjoyed as intended.
