Offered for sale by AMM International is this rebuilt and well-maintained example of the iconic Mazda RX-7 FD3S, finished in Competition Yellow Mica (CYM) over black leather.
This example was acquired as a rolling shell by a previous owner, a rotary specialist, as a personal project around 2019. It was subsequently rebuilt from a shell between approximately 2019 and 2022. At the time of acquisition, the vehicle retained its original structure and interior but was without running gear.
During this period, the car underwent significant mechanical and cosmetic work, including: Installation of a Mazda-supplied replacement engine (invoice present) 2022
Gearbox rebuild completed in 2022 (invoice present)
Refresh of suspension, braking system, and underpinnings
Full glass-out exterior re-paint from red to Competition Yellow Mica (CYM), including engine bay, door shuts, and underside
At the time of engine installation, reconditioned turbos were fitted. A larger Koyorad intercooler was also installed, along with a new Exedy OEM-standard clutch. In February 2025, a new stock radiator was also fitted.
The engine presents well and is supported by an invoice. Compression readings are understood to be within a healthy range, and the car starts, idles, and performs as expected. Upon installation, the correct running-in procedure was carried out.
The vehicle has been maintained with regular servicing carried out approximately every 1,500 km, with consistent use of Motul 2T premix alongside standard lubrication.
Cooling system performance has been addressed. The car benefits from an upgraded aluminium radiator, with a previous radiator replacement and a thermostat replaced in July 2025.
The vehicle was inspected and serviced by Rotor Torque (London) in July 2025, where a new MOT was applied, and the thermostat was replaced alongside routine maintenance. The car runs with stable temperature behaviour.
Further mechanical specification includes a rear limited-slip differential from an RX-8 R3 model, and HSD coilover suspension. The underside was refinished during the rebuild and presents clean with no visible corrosion. The car is also fitted with a stainless steel exhaust system
The vehicle performs in line with standard factory power expectations, delivering smooth and consistent acceleration with no known issues. Boost delivery is progressive, and the engine pulls cleanly through the rev range, providing the balanced and responsive driving characteristics typical of a standard RX-7 FD3S.
Externally, the car presents in Competition Yellow Mica (CYM) following a full respray. The finish shows good overall consistency and depth, though it is not concours and may display minor imperfections in line with use and age.
The car sits on BBS alloy wheels with Toyo TR1 tyres in near-new condition.
Inside, the cabin is in factory black leather and remains largely original in presentation. The factory sunroof is present and operational. A Mazdaspeed 300 km/h instrument cluster has been fitted, along with a Cube Speed short shifter and upgraded gear knob. The cabin also features an Apexi Power FC Commander (monitor).
Mileage:
Original factory cluster: 71,052 km at time of removal
Mazdaspeed replacement cluster: 53,442 km at installation
Current odometer: 59,859 km
Based on this, the true mileage is estimated at approximately 77,500 km (48,000 miles).
Documentation & History:
Mazda engine supply invoice
Gearbox rebuild invoice (2022)
MOT history records
Selection of service and maintenance invoices
Multiple keys
While not supported by a full documented build file, the key mechanical work is evidenced by invoices, and the overall condition reflects the level of investment carried out.
The car drives well, with strong performance, stable running, and an engaging mechanical feel. Overall, this example presents as a well-sorted and usable Mazda RX-7 FD3S, reflecting the level of mechanical work and upkeep it has received in recent years. While not a factory-original or concours vehicle, it offers a strong driving experience with the major mechanical areas already addressed. The car shows well throughout, with only minor age-related imperfections consistent with use, and represents an honest opportunity to acquire a properly maintained FD3S that is ready to be enjoyed.
