Description
AMM International is proud to present this highly desirable Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VI Tommi Mäkinen Edition, one of just 2,500 examples produced worldwide and widely regarded as one of the most iconic and collectible Evolutions ever built. Created to celebrate Tommi Mäkinen’s extraordinary achievement of four consecutive World Rally Championship titles, the TME is far more than a cosmetic special edition, it is a genuinely enhanced performance model with a direct link to Mitsubishi’s rally dominance.
Often referred to by enthusiasts as the “Evo 6.5,” the Tommi Mäkinen Edition benefitted from a host of factory upgrades over the standard Evo VI. These include a quicker steering rack, revised suspension geometry with a lower and stiffer setup, and a specially developed turbocharger featuring a titanium turbine wheel and revised compressor for sharper response. Combined, these changes deliver a more focused, engaging, and dynamic driving experience that sets the TME apart from its already formidable siblings.
This example was originally registered in Japan before being imported into the UK in 2019. Upon arrival, it was finished in the original Scotia White, which remains intact beneath a professionally applied Carmine Red wrap completed in late 2021. The wrap includes all shuts, was applied to a very high standard, and has since been ceramic coated. Should the next custodian wish to return the car to its original appearance, the underlying paintwork is reported to be clean and well preserved.
The car has clearly benefited from meticulous ownership, with strong attention paid to both presentation and mechanical condition. A comprehensive history file accompanies the vehicle, documenting its importation, wrapping, servicing, and ongoing maintenance. Sympathetic performance upgrades have been carried out, including a Stage 1 remap, a Cusco uprated rear differential, and BC Racing coilover suspension. Crucially, the all-important cambelt change is documented, and there is no record of accident damage either in Japan or during its time in the UK.
Inside, the Tommi Mäkinen Edition distinguishes itself with unique Recaro front seats embroidered with Mäkinen’s name, reinforcing the car’s motorsport pedigree. The interior remains in very good condition overall, with the only notable blemish being a small burn on the rear seat. A motorsport-style steering wheel has been fitted, along with an aftermarket upper dash panel housing three auxiliary gauges. The original steering wheel and dash components are retained and included, allowing the car to be returned to factory specification if desired.
Externally, the Evo presents extremely well. The Carmine Red wrap has an excellent finish, complementing the aggressive stance and instantly recognisable TME styling, which mirrors the Marlboro-liveried WRC cars of the era. An optional front bumper with integrated fog lights is fitted—a rare and desirable feature. The underside has been carefully cleaned and protected, with no evidence of corrosion, repairs, or welding. The original white Enkei wheels have been fully refurbished and are fitted with new Toyo Proxes tyres, completing the period-correct appearance. An attractive registration number is fitted and may be made available by separate negotiation.
Mechanically, the Tommi Mäkinen Edition is every bit the competition-bred machine its reputation suggests. Even in standard form, these cars are revered for their capability, but the combination of factory TME enhancements and carefully chosen aftermarket upgrades elevates this example further, without compromising its character or originality. All work is supported by detailed paperwork, underscoring the car’s careful maintenance and enthusiast ownership.
With Lancer Evolutions rapidly establishing themselves as modern classics, and the rarest variants leading the way, the Tommi Mäkinen Edition stands firmly at the top of the hierarchy. Its presence is commanding, its heritage undeniable, and its appeal broad, whether as a thrilling driver’s car, a centrepiece in a serious collection, or a long-term investment.
This is not merely a commemorative model, but a true homologation-inspired performance icon. Few cars combine rally pedigree, rarity, and usability quite like the Evo VI Tommi Mäkinen Edition, making this an exceptional opportunity to acquire one of the most significant Lancer Evolutions ever produced.
